Firefly

With the appearance of Jewel Staite at the recent Supernova expo being held here in Perth, we happened to be talking about Firefly at work on Friday afternoon. After years of being told by various people how fantastic this series is, and an afternoon of praise from workmates, I decided to surprise Nat by hiring the entire series from the video shop to see how much we could get through over the weekend.

I am not a big TV guy - it generally needs to be animated for me to even pay attention. As for Joss Whedon - well let's just say I have never gotten into Buffy or Angel. In fact, it is probably better to say that I have tried to avoid those shows altogether.

So this was just obviously well written. Good dialogue, good story pacing, excellent characters - undeniably good entertainment. We got through a DVD per night - it would have been more if we didn't so gosh darned sweepy.

On Monday morning I was able to tell Joseph that we were 75% of the way through the series. And then something unexpected happened. From a JB HiFi bag Joseph pulled out two objects. His present to me - the entire Firefly series and ultimate edition Serenity DVDs. Monday mornings normally don't happen like this.

Shiny.
